Lapsang Souchong - Bohea
Plucked from wild trees growing deep in the UNESCO protected Wuyi Nature Reserve, this non-smoky, full bodied tea has long, plump, wiry leaves which yield a deep, complex flavor with sweet hints of Dragon Eye fruit. One of the earliest "gong fu" teas produced, the correct Chinese name is Zhen Shan Xiao Zhong, meaning "Real Mountain Small Variety". Originally the tea was not smoked and the Chinese still prefer the natural tea taste vs. the pine-smoked version popular in the West.
The term "Bohea" is now an antiquated pronunciation of "Wuyi," the mountainous area in Northwestern Fujian province and birthplace of black tea.
